Aurore Ernest-Jones, CD(DONA) Birth and Postpartum Doula
I am a DONA certified birth doula, I trained in New York City in 2010 with Tara Poulin of Birthing Gently. I am currently pursuing certification as a postpartum doula and Breastfeeding Counselor with Childbirth International.
I left France in 2004 at the sweet age of 21 to move to London, England where I met my husband in 2007. We got married in 2009 and moved to Manhattan that year. I am now the proud mama of Savannah who was born in July 2011. Months before even getting pregnant, I started researching birth options in New York City. I can be quite academic and as a foreigner in a big city, I felt I needed to educate myself as much as possible on the different options available to me. I found myself buried in childbirth books. I researched the hospitals, birthing center and homebirth midwives of Manhattan. I could not learn enough about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, the newborn - it fascinated me (and still does!). After watching the business of being born from Ricky Lake and Abby Epstein and reading Cara Muhlhahn's book Labor of Love, the homebirth midwife featured in the movie; I was drawn to learn more about the role of a doula. In a matter of months, I had read dozens of books and signed up for a birth doula workshop. I trained in July and attended my first birth in September of 2010.
After taking some time off to enjoy my new baby daughter, I am now back to work. My family and I moved to West Ashley at the beginning of 2012 and I can't wait to meet all the wonderful mommies and mommies-to-be of the Charleston area.
